ABOUT THE ARTIST

João Pedro Matumoto is a visual artist born and living in the capital of São Paulo. He produces paintings and drawings using a mixed technique of graphite and charcoal. Art has been present in his life since he was very young through drawing, and it was his passion for the potential of colors and their possibilities that led him to also work with digital painting and oil painting.

In addition, he currently works with digital product design with a focus on User Experience (UX) and has a degree in Advertising and Propaganda. In high school, he completed technical training in Visual Communication. Curious, he builds visual narratives that move through different languages in the visual arts, influenced mainly by psychology and philosophy, with the aim of touching on issues related to human behavior.

My current research project is mainly focused on the study of human behavior and existential themes, seeking to explore ways of contemplating reality from a unique perspective with the aim of expressing that which is not possible in everyday life, but which is always present in it.

My works often dialogue with what is most intimate in human beings. Their pain - physical and psychological -, frustrations, passions, intensity, lack of feelings. This provocation, at the same time, is done with a guise that makes the aesthetics pleasant due to the techniques used, without failing to convey a critical message.

I believe that one of my greatest purposes as an artist is to contemplate the complexity of human relationships.

SOLO EXHIBITIONS

"Psicossomática" - Espaço Viva Arouche - July-September 2024

Exhibition focused on digital paintings, whose theme deals with the relationship between physical symptoms of psychological diseases, and vice-versa. During the month of July, the artist received visitors at the Viva Arouche space to present his work and conduct guided tours. The exhibition was accompanied by the launch of the book "As Ruas Por Que Passei" (The Streets I've Passed), by Hussein Chaid Chahrour.

"Contrastes" - Espaço Viva Arouche - October de 2023

Exhibition (named "Contrastes") of four commissioned works held at the Viva Arouche space in a large house in downtown São Paulo (Rua do Arouche) for the Círio SP event, which celebrated the culture of Pará (brazilian state) with a focus on its capital Belém and the Círio de Nazaré, the largest religious event in Brazil, which takes place in October. In partnership with producers from the Northeast and North, it was possible to bring art, food, and traditional music and show the perception of a São Paulo resident regarding the Círio after a great immersion in studies and workshops.

Event celebrating the 55th anniversary of the São Caetano do Sul Arts Foundation, an institution for teaching and research in the arts. The visual arts collective featured artists invited by the curators and faculty and aimed to explore the world of dreams through the visual arts.

Fair composed of 12 guest artists of varied styles with a focus on promoting art present in the ABC Paulista, a region in the state of São Paulo. Event conceived and promoted by Ateliê Natureza Impressa.

Works selected for the online exhibition that aims to establish and promote Brazilian and foreign artists within the primary art market, with 10 artists selected. Curatorial panel composed of 3 international artists and 2 Brazilians.
